Trump’s Nominee Thinks MLK Day Belongs in Hell

Paul Ingrassia, a special kind of nominee.

A Special Kind of Counsel

Well, if you thought the political discourse couldn’t get any more… colorful, allow me to introduce Paul Ingrassia. This isn’t some random forum troll; this is President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Office of Special Counsel [4], [5]. Yes, the very agency that, ironically, is supposed to protect federal whistleblowers [6]. Ingrassia, who was born in 1995 [3], is a relatively young attorney with a surprising resume of opinions. His recent pronouncements, reportedly shared in group texts, offer a truly unfiltered look at the kind of “special” counsel we might be getting.

Reimagining History (Badly)

The man apparently has some very specific ideas about historical figures and national observances. Ingrassia reportedly referred to Martin Luther King Jr. as “the 1960s George Floyd” [1]. Let that sink in for a moment. But he didn’t stop there. When it comes to MLK Day, he believes it should be “tossed in the seventh circle of hell” [1]. As if that wasn’t enough, Ingrassia also reportedly stated that holidays commemorating Black people should be “eviscerated” [2]. This broad brush certainly seems to sweep in everything from Black History Month to Juneteenth, perfectly encapsulating a certain disregard for established cultural recognition. It’s almost as if he’s actively trying to antagonize.

The Cynical Reality

Frankly, none of this is surprising to those of us who’ve been watching the political circus unfold for decades. This isn’t some “young Republicans” chat that got out of hand; these are the deeply held sentiments of a man tapped for a significant federal leadership role. The nomination of someone who reportedly boasts a “Nazi streak” [2] and holds such contempt for figures like MLK Jr. and Black-centric holidays perfectly sums up the MAGA movement’s penchant for provocative, often offensive, appointments. It’s less about competence or unity and more about ideological purity and, perhaps, seeing just how far they can push the envelope. Apparently, “special counsel” now means “special kind of problematic.”
