About Subtopikal
“What you need to know, and what it means to you.”
Subtopikal is an independent news and opinion site. It exists to help you understand what is happening in the world and why it matters to you — without the noise, the clickbait, and the anonymous outrage that now surround most news.
Three standing rules govern everything on this site:
- Label what it is. Every piece is marked News or Opinion before you read a word. The label is never hidden and never ambiguous.
- Name who did it. Nothing is anonymous. Every piece carries a byline; anything gathered from another outlet credits that outlet and names the editor who reviewed it.
- Show your work. Claims point at their sources. When we are wrong, we say so and correct it — visibly, never by silently editing the past.
Who runs it
Subtopikal is edited by Leo Soderman, operating under Silver Scale Creations. This is a deliberately small operation: one accountable editor signs every piece, checks the sourcing, and answers the mail. That scale is a feature, not a limitation — when you read a byline here, a single named person is responsible for it.
Opinion pieces are the author’s judgment, plainly labeled as such. They are never generated by AI, never ghosted, and they are allowed to disagree with each other and with the editor.
Funding & independence
Subtopikal is operated and funded out of pocket by Leo Soderman, under Silver Scale Creations. It carries no advertising and accepts no undisclosed sponsorships. There is no paid placement and nothing here is for sale. The revenue model is simple: free to read, with a free weekly newsletter. If that ever changes — if a paid tier arrives, or a sponsor appears — this page will say so plainly and nothing sponsored will ever be dressed up as editorial.
Subtopikal is not aligned with any political party, government, or corporate interest. News coverage and opinion are separated by the label you see above every headline, and by nothing subtler than that.
When we get it wrong
We investigate reported errors promptly and correct confirmed ones visibly. The full corrections policy and public log live on their own page. We hold ourselves to the code of ethics we publish.
A real person reads the mail: editors@subtopikal.com. If something here is wrong, tell us — that is the fastest way to get it fixed.
